Lori Frank is an independent artist from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, with over 30 of painting experience. In 2013, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of pursuing her art full-time and jumped into creative world with both feet. Lori specializes in acrylics and oils, creating uplifting, colorful, and unique pieces. Her works have been showcased at Edmonton City Hall, Muttart Conservatory, and the Jubilee Auditorium. For 10 years, she has focused on painting Edmonton's river valley and developing her Canadiana series. In September 2018, her night cityscape, "Reflections of Light," was selected by a jury to featured by EEDC in the second publication of "Gifted," which highlights handmade items from Edmonton Made. Additionally, her painting of the rail car crossing High Level Bridge, "Riding the Rails," was included in the Gifted catalogue in September 2019.  She primarily uses acrylics to develop her Edmonton river valley series. Although she began her artistic journey with watercolors, she found acrylics to be more flexible for her unique impressionism style. Oils, Pastels, charcoal, and pencil drawing are other mediums she plans to explore again. An avid photographer, Lori captures reference material for her paintings focusing on important subjects and themes. Her distinctive painting style emerged organically during her teenage years while taking art classes. Her work has been described as "dancing with light" by 4 City Councillor and artist Aaron Paquette, who notes "your eye sort of flicks across from highlight to. It's a joy." Lori believes that it's crucial for individuals, cultures, neighbors and cities to see themselves reflected in culture and art. She aims to deepen our sense of identity and belonging through her work, stating, "It feels good to know someone recognizes the same beauty in surroundings that you do, and maybe sometimes, they uncover something new." (Excerpt from an article in Edmonton Prime Times, Dec 2, 2019). For several years, her muse has been the Edmonton river, North America's largest urban parkland. During this time, she conceived and developed her "Stairway to Heaven," "Trailblazing," and "Connector" series, continuing to create new in these themes. Through her ongoing series, Lori hopes to inspire Edmontonians and tourists to explore the city and valley firsthand fostering a deeper connection with the area. Each new painting involves an adventure into the valley to discover locations to capture and translate into her artwork. Having spent thousands of hours photographing the well-known and unique hiking trails, stairways, and bridges; then Lori breathes new life into them with her paintings.
